One big family | Neocaridina Heteropoda

Posted on February 10, 2014 by ThisIsCray Posted in neocaridina .

Blue rili, chocolate, orange sakura, blue jelly, red cherry shrimp..what do they all have in common? Correct, they are all shrimps. Genius! Well aside from that, they are all derived from the same ancestors. They were all once upon a time Neocaridina Heteropoda var. wild. It has almost no color, it is transparent and spotted. This is their true form when found in the wild.

Breeders came along with a mission to bring out a particular color. They would select breed shrimps which hold more of the specified color. Over time and many generations later they arrive with one of the variations which we know today. They are totally “man made” and does not exist naturally in nature. We should appreciate the effort these breeders put into developing these colorful creatures. Owner should also caution to never mix two variations of Neocaridina Heteropoda together. They will interbreed and over time your population will start to lose its original color. It will go back looking like it did in the wild days.
